Non?Local Reconfigurable Sparse Metasurface: Efficient Near?Field and Far?Field Wavefront Manipulations

In recent years, metasurfaces have shown extremely powerful abilities for manipulation of electromagnetic waves. However, the local response conventional yields an intrinsic performance limitation in terms efficiency, minimizing their implementation real-life applications. The efficiency reconfigurable further decreases because high density meta-atoms, reaching 74 meta-atoms per ?2 area, incorporating lossy tunable elements. To address these problems, strong non-local features are implemented a sparse metasurface composed electronically meta-atoms. As proof-of-concept demonstration, dynamic having as few 8 area is experimentally realized microwave domain to control 2D wavefronts both near-field and far-field regions focusing beam-forming, respectively. proposed with its sparsity not only facilitates design fabrication, but also opens door high-efficiency real-time reprogrammable functionalities beam manipulations, wireless power transfer, imaging holography.
